Oh yeah, this was '94 when we sent a bunch of granddads to take on the nightmare which is keen, young, talented, hungry Aussie predators - Slater being a fine example of the many that were coming through in Oz cricket then. Batting and bowling: they tore us apart and then they gobbled us up. It was about this time that I became absolutely certain cricket in this country was being run by escaped inmates from a nuthouse (I had been wondering about that for years though).
I'd certainly disagree with that, mainly because of the large number of quality openers Australia has had. Slater was good, but with serious deficiencies.
One of my most favorite batsmen to play the game. In my team from 90's i will have him open the inning with Saeed Anwar. Both attacking, Both classic!

Slater should be remembered as one of our greatest openers of all time .. changed the way we played the game
