August 20, 2010 marked the 5 year anniversary of the beginning of the making of the Dixie Square Mall documentary. On August 22, 2010 the Dixie Square Film Crew consisting of Paul Mcvay, Mike C, Mike B and Chuck Janda descended on the old Dixie for one last hurrah. We were accompanied by Jon Revelle, Don LaFontaine (his last name isn't really LaFontaine, but it sounds cool) and Kevin Brown. The mall has really changed in the last 5 years, and the 7 of us had a really good time walking around for a few hours reminiscing about old times. I gave Mike C my HD camera and told him to shoot some video. Photos are mine with the exception of 2 of them, courtesy of Lee Bey. The title of this video "Dixie's Last Gasp" refers to JCPenney's last sale. In 1978, JCPenney's closed it's doors, but for some reason the store was left stocked for a year until 1979. JCPenney's briefly re-opened it's doors for what was called "Dixie's Last Gasp" where all remaining merchandise was sold including display cases and light fixtures.
@AccessDenied55 Governor Quinn acquisition ed 4 million dollars in disaster relief to remove the mall. The old girl is finally coming down.

@EarlFaulk Nah..It hasnt been enough state funding to do it..
It's going to probably tear down itself, it has caught on fire about 3 times in the last 10 years
Plus, most of the roof is collapsing

Here in UK Malls Never end up like this three of the biggest Malls built late seventies or eightiest still command high customer revenue and are updated every 15 yrs at least that includes cutting through concrete relocating lifts & escalators so be it they do it while its open just barricade area`s then remodel then move barricades along do next section. till its totally new upto date or they totally demolish and build even bigger ones like Westfield with 2 million Square meter mall.

MFSB/TSOP, funny... North Philly has a mall called Cheltenham Square Mall that USED to look just like this place. And Kensington, the next neighborhood over, looks just like where Elwood spent the night... before Carrie Fisher blew it up
