Not quite,Penydarren, its the area in upper Merthyr Tydfil that Francis Homfray the ironmaster owned his ironworks.
The remains of the ironworks are long gone but Penydarren is still an area in Merthyr even today and the famous tramroad still exists with many of the original 1804 stone sleepers that held the rails still in place.
Check out the Penydarren tramroad on any website and be amazed.
Actually Penydarren was never designed to run on rails,it was meant to be a static engine at Mr Homfrays Penydarren Iron Works in upper Merthyr Tydfil.
Only after accepting that collosal 500 Guinea bet made by rival ironmaster Richard Crawshay,a huge sum of money in 1804 did Trevithik give it a go on the packhorse trail alongside the Glamorganshire canal.
The rails were already there and Penydarren performed well enough to win the bet.
Mistrzostwo. Gratuluję.
