I'm the group marketing manager for Lexia (of which Rhodar is part) and first of can only apologise for the driving of this particular employee. We have the registration details and will talk to the driver in question about the incident. We take this type of behaviour seriously and will take any necessary disciplianary action. We use tracker systems in all our vans which will allow us to establish the speed the driver was travelling at which will help us with our investigation.

Overtaking with upcoming island represents bad driving on the part of the van.

@stuartdbond I don't think this was an illegal move it was a broken white line, looked pretty OK to me!

@mbi1m1966 What an excellent, thoughtful response. Cyclists thank you!

@stuartdbond He's right you know, I watched a couple more times (although that last swing around the trailer might be deemed questionable, the Clio did move over for the trailer). Just like motorists, we cyclists don't always make the right decisions -- surprise! -- only our bad decisions usually don't mean that s/one is threatened with a tonne or more of metal, glass, and plastic.
-
@stuartdbond look at 0:26, the van driver is far too close to that cyclist and has no room for error with it being a pinch point.
-
@stuartdbond Once you're old enough to drive, and have read (and understood) the highway code, come back and comment :P

@mbi1m1966 Please notice that at :25 - :27 the same driver is overtaking another bicyclist at the very next pedestrian reservation.
How about the careless and inconsiderate cycling. The cyclist overtakes 4 vehicles whilst on the wrong side of the road. Whilst STILL on the wrong side of the road the cyclist forces the oncoming Renault Clio (that has right of way) towards the near side kerb. The cyclist then completes a blind overtake squeezing between the van and oncoming vehicle without any concern for his own safety or that of other road users. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Watch clip from 1.48.

@stuartdbond
I passed all the vehicles you mention in safety, providing them with plenty of space. There is nothing illegal in riding in the oncoming carriageway to overtake, provided it is done safely. Would you prefer I undertake?
The Renault Clio was forced to swerve by the tail of the trailer swinging out into its path. At the time I was braking, prepared to stop as it's pretty foolhardy for someone on a bike to go head-on with someone in a car.

@kmcyc You really shouldn't of gone onto the wrong side of the road; a massive bunny hop would have prevented the need :D:D ;)

@thomase1
LOL! :)
Could have done I guess... I'm free of my heavy panniers these days, which I've swapped for a rack topbox instead, so there's less weight for sure but even so, I think I might have been safer riding the oncoming lane for a short distance... ;)

Some 'special' driving at 1:06 as well.

@hiu62f
Unfortunately unless an opportunity to discuss incidents with drivers of privately owned vehicles presents itself there is not much that can be done to address their bad driving.
