Josh, here are the Fiji islands rules of opening coconuts with just 1 firm hit with your blunt side of your chopper, turn the coconut that you can see what might look like eyes and mouth of the coconut, hold the nut in your hand like you did and hit the line between the eyes cross ways and not parallel to the line,the coconut will crack open 99.9% in the middle,- how I know this? I'm a Fijian and live on a coconut plantation on the second largest island called Vanua Levu- all the best
