@MrEthan0329 they wouldn't be able to do a 'go around' and if a plane overshot the runway (which happened) instead of going into water it would go into buildings and roads.

They COULD land toward the mountain... but the prevailing winds were usually from the opposite direction. And since most aircraft want to land with a headwind (allows for a slower/safer approach speed), that meant doing the turn into Runway 13.

@ImmortalSynn I thought Kai Tak is a one-runway airport 13 vs 31? is "runway 31" same as "runway 13" only from the opposite direction?
