lol that horse hasnt a care in the world whats going on on his back, well trained
-
wow i could barely jump on my 13.2 hh pony without a decent run up let alone standing still
-
@kusskuss101 both, also the horse's momentum pulls you up. I can't just jump on my horse if she is standing still (she's 18.1hh) but if she's moving I can, with a lot of effort in walk - easily in canter.

i have just started this sport about 6 or 7 months ago and have fallen in love with it, it is such a graceful spot
-
@Sanchara wow, how do you jump soo high in to them??..i can jump on my 14.2 horse but not my 15.2 ... how do you jump ( with your arms or legs...or both???)

thats amazing gee i wish i could ride my horse like that

At the lower levels it matters less. I could probably do a very simple freestyle or compulsories on a 16-16.2ish horse - at the higher levels when you are doing more difficult freestyles with moves like leaps, cartweels ect. and technical tests you will HURT your horse if they are too small. Basically the horse needs to be strong enough to balance underneath you and take impact when you make mistakes (which we all inevitably do no matter how experience and carefull we are)

@Sanchara thats rubbish i vault on a 16.2 and im 19 and i could vault on much, much smaller horses but i dont know about 12hh

I used to vault from 1981-1986,when there were only 2 teams in Britain.I can't believe how much more technical and difficult it has become over the last 20years!!!I'm 37 now....would love to have a go now to see if I could still get on!!

I'd find a vaulting club with an experienced coach. Vaulting is a great thrill that's also super safe if you take the right percautions.
