they are called Kipping pullups. Crossfit decides to use them becasue they are better for full body coordination, and more gymnastic.
Although they are the standard, some strength workouts do have you do strict pullups
-
can you do 50 pulls ups then your push ups and get back to your remaining 50 pulls ups?

@Nesoc It says on the main site about Murph "Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed." That means, yeah, you can break them up however you want as long as you finish all the repetitions.

35:20. No vest. Strict pull ups.

@manowartrexspacefan Lieutenant Michael Murphy was actually in the Navy. The way you suggested the WoD is wrong. It plainly states on the main Crossfit site under the "Murph" workout to: "Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed." Partition meaning to break into parts. I just wanted to post so individuals not familiar with the workout now know you can break up the movements.

I don't see nipples hitting the ground. Awful form. They are what Crossfitters call "clock whores"
-
shitty pullups, shitty pushups, but you kick so much ass, so macho. Ugh.

@Twin84AirRaid Yes

My favorite part of crossfit is looking at their faces once they are half way through or done...they look fucking broken.

@smoku46 This is a benchmark WOD so any form is ok as long as the same form is used every time you do it. You track improvement. If you can dead hang a murph, then I tip my hat to you. Just don't hate.

Anyone out there know the name of those special pull-ups they do and / or YouTube videos showing how to do them? They have a specific name.
