I really hope that people will READ Freire and not simply depend on the comments in this thread as a means to understand his theories or "motives." Both are clearly stated in Pedagogy of the Oppressed although it may require numerous passes (with dictionary in hand) and time to reflect on how one's own experience mirrors what exists in his writings.
@yukiomishima246 No no no. Look into what text book suppliers distribute, what grade level parents who home school achieve, and the laws that state they needn't have a HS diploma.
Freire never claimed that Pedagogy of the Oppressed was in any way radical. It was and still is the people on top of the educational system's political ladder that claimed it was radical. To those outside the educational system who are in favor of Freire's philosophy, it's radical because it isn't implemented. Terminology, dude.
