  • Awesome Yopp! How did you learn it? Tab? Sheet music? Jut by ear? You've inspired me to try it!

    Mozart next?!?!?

    Beethoven? Ode to Joy?

  • Thanks! This one was all by ear. I have not tried to tab it yet. I am not sure how to show the right hand nail glides.

  • This has to be a first - Bach on the banjo! And well done! But you should sing the chorale part too!

  • Yep, its not a first. Bela does some very impressive classical music. In the clawhammer world, I know that Michael Miles has a CD of Bach, as well as a CD playing with Bela Fleck. So, its not unheard of, but you will still get some mighty confused looks when you pull out your banjo and start playing Bach.

  • @rim8618 Sorry, I couldn't make it, bro. Maybe next week. *grin*

  • Hey bro. I know it's kinda short notice. But can you come play that at our church in the morning? :)

  • I understand Bach is coming back to collect the royalties. They say he liked money. Nice work, Yopp!

  • This one really takes me bach. Great job, Yopp!

  • Awesome, Yopp!! AWESOME!

  • If you can, Get the "New England Christmastide" CDs. There's a rollickin' banjo in some of the selections. This reminded me of it.

  • I've never heard this on banjo. Sounds great!

  • I concur. Having just posted a melodic fingerpicking version of this (before I saw your comment), I fit your description, and am humbled by seeing it done in clawhammer. On the other hand, this is a very delicate song, which is why the banjo, which can be a delicate instrument but is too often "overplayed" bluegrass style, and Bach, don't typically mix. Anyway, great video of a great tune that plays surprisingly well in clawhammer!

  • What's REALLY impressive is the fact that you're playing clawhammer style.

Any melodic player can fingerpick a simple melody line, but it takes real skill to pull off the same tune using slides, hammer-on's and pull-off's to fill in the missing notes while just strumming (If you'll forgive me).

    Hat's off gentlemen.
