  • I know a Mini a Ford Cortina a RS500 and a Nissan Skyline GTR have won the great race, and Greg Murphy the Kiwi driver has one it a couple of time's.

I believe the Eggburger cars were disqualified for running illegally high octane gas as well.

  • Lots of people running rocket fuel at Bathurst back in the 1980's. They were never busted for fuel as everyone elses was tested as bent as well...!

  • i saw the race winning car in the uk a few months ago, its currently for sale i believe..

  • The car you saw will have been the car that Martin Johnson restored. His car was actually a 1988 car decal'd to look like the '87 car. Lovely piece all the same. The best engineered racing Sierras by a country mile...

  • I rememeber these sierra racing in bathurst as they cane 1st and 2nd but later after the race they was disquaifled, I cant rememeber why....

  • Protests were raised by a couple of the Australian teams over bodywork irregularities. The cars were OK with FISA (Governing body in Europe) but CAMS (Governing body in Australia) didn't like it and upheld the protests. Sadly, it was entirely political. Fact is that a non-Australian car was never going to win this race...

  • Look you bigoted, narrow minded, one eyed, conspiring Australians, ignorant Australians I was media director for Eggenberger Motorsport in 1987 We DID Not run illegal fuel and the fuel slobs can back clear, then they the V*8 low teach dinosaurs teams accused us of illegal impellor which the both the FIA and CAMS inspections cleared us of... Due a mismanufacture mis-mold in the inside rain run off guard on the panel EVERY Sierra team in the field, including DJR had to fold back the inside

  • Awsome!

  • i want one....

  • @85gt The fuel was the same for everone, it came from a gas station in Bathurst and was tested by cams, it past, Eggenberger was disqualified for bodywork, ie bigger wheel arches, so that he could fit larger wheels and tyres. Its in the book the Great Race 1987. The case was held in Japan by FISA 2 months later and Brocky was handed the win.

  • The RS500 is a F**king Legend!

  • Woooooooo go Eggenberger! Thats my name!!!!!!!!!

  • andy rouse's rs500 cars were fast and all the parts were built for a purpose and not finished to the high standard of the texaco sierra in the paint and such like parts polished to look good aswel as going fast.dick johnson had a great car and so did allan moffat.the fordrs500 was banned because itwas to good justlike the skylinegtr. loved watching these cars race but when they started banning cars it went downhill abit imo.would love to see a car come into touring cars and do what the rs500 did

  • The fans were all cheering Brock on at the top on the last lap - in saying that, that Sierra, whilst illegal, was a mighty little car, and such a great car it proved to be in the next two years at Bathurst...
