In May of 2011 wild fires tore through the picturesque Alberta town of Slave Lake, devastating a good portion of their community. Some lost homes, some lost businesses and others lost both. I have participated in a number of fundraisers to help rebuild their town including donating 25% of my own CD release ticket sales to their relief fund in May of 2011. The following month I was honored to be invited up to Grande Prairie where the lovely and very talented CCMA award nominee, Tenille, was releasing her own CD and also raising funds for Slave Lake. As a tribute to the people of Slave Lake, we sang 'Lean on Me' (Bill Withers) and we were joined on stage by Tyler Vollrath on fiddle. It was a very emotional moment and the crowd responded with a standing ovation. Such an honor.
