In September 2009 CultureLinks Newcomer Youth Centre established the Wintegration program. This purpose of this program is to give newcomer and refugee youth the opportunity to experience Canadian winter sports. In addition participants also receive leadership training, attend workshops on a variety of topics, and go on field trips.

From September 2009 to April 2010 over 80 young people, all new to Canada, participated in the Wintegration program. They tried skiing, skating, snowboarding, curling and bowling. They played soccer, learned about nutrition and healthy eating, attended workshops on anti-oppression and immigration process, visited art galleries and museums, and attended the theatre. They are truly ready to take their newfound knowledge and skills back to their schools and act as leaders and mentors to the new cohort of newcomers next year.
