I salvaged this old organ from a dumpster. Many of the keys did not works and there were several electrical prolems. But I kept it because it had a built in rotary speaker. I left it at my friend Stephen's studio for a few years. He recently told me he needed it out of the way. So, since it is now in my living room I decided to fix it up.

The video is of the first tune I recorded with it after cleaning all the key contacts. Nothing really any good, just me noodling around with the video camera on. Then I layered a few other instruments. The video starts with me creating a sample on my Casio SK-1 then creating a short sequence on its on board sequencer. Then plug it and a toy drum machine into my home made sequencer to get the rhythm going and the rest is an afternoon's worth of not getting anything else done.

  • that organ looks similar to the baldwin I have, which is from '68, an 81R orgasonic, and it's all transistor, the only custom part in it was the early type of "potted IC's" for the string sound everything else in it is readily available from any good electronics supplier, and even if it is tube, tubes for things like this are still quite readily available, manufactured in russia and china they aren't expensive, whoever made that last post is a complete idiot!

  • This organ has an all solid state (transistors) tone generator and filter section, only the power amp in the bottom, that drives the speakers of the organ, has tubes.

  • You are a robot! Liked the theme, organ lead and atmosphere was my favorite, bridge was understandable(could've been better)good tone and mix, loved the bubbles popping sound, and I wish you did more with the piano lead about three and a quarter minutes in.

Loved the song from there even the weird transition and organ parts in the last two minutes.

  • That is the best feedback I have ever received on youtube! I really appreciate the constructive criticism, it really the main reason I even think to share.

    THANKS!

  • You and that riff....

    Great clip.

  • I think you mean the C6, Cm7+9, F6, Fm7+9, Eb7+2, D7, Dbmaj7, C6 bit... It has been my favorite string of chords for at least the last year or so.

  • picking one up this weekend along with a Hammond M3. Going to break down and pay $95 for them. I had to strip a M3 a month ago, another roadside find. Stay funky honky

  • @grassulo do you have any idea how much the 81R is valued in good condition,i have one and everything is good on it from inside out

  • Hey, you would do great with a Wurlitzer 625t or 630. They come up all the time on Craigslist. It is very interactive and has the Orbit monophonic synthesizer built in. You can play the synth manual on the regular upper keyboard ( swell manual). It is such a very well built organ ( a notch above my Gulbransen Rialto II's quality, but don't let that stop you if you ever have the pleasure getting one of thiose. I just got a Rialto II for free just from posting a Want-ad on Craigslist. Got Leslie2!

  • awesome!! :D

  • Very tasteful playing indeed. I found my Yamaha B4cr Electone up on a mound of dirt in an ally with the speakers robbed out of it. I got it home and ran a cord out of the headphone. It worked! Reverb and all of those good old sounds from all the grannies in the hood back in 73'. The G# was a bit flat, and although I could have tweaked it back in, there was something special about it. It was like a built in glissando for my bestist' solo ever on - 'slappy sand wedge' . I'll post it. You inspire.

  • That sounds greta, very retro!! Not a bad sound from the Baldwin. I have a Hammond tonewheel and love the Leslie effect. This organ sounds pretty good for solid state. Great job!

  • Really, so I should throw away my Hammond and Leslie , and my vintage Valve Radio collection? That is the most ridiculous comment I ever heard, I would hate to be something of yours, I would be thrown away as soon as something went wrong! I am by no means a wealthy person and I can easily afford to get vacuum tubes, you just have to look around, you don't have to pay a fortune.

  • Great! You should put it on a CD.
