Brooklyn, NY—Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010--Temporary tent-like structures are cropping up across balconies in Brooklyn for the holiday of Sukkot which starts Wed., Sept. 22. Families will share their holiday meals in these structures, otherwise known as "sukkahs". But for some families, having a decent holiday meal is a real struggle. Masbia will conduct a last minute distribution to help out families in need of holiday food.
At the eleventh hour, Masbia received some significant private donations, and decided to put the money to work. On Tuesday, Masbia placed small announcement ads in the local daily circulars that are distributed in grocery stores and synagogues in time for the morning prayer, inviting anyone who does not have food for the holidays to come to MASBIA at 65 Lee Ave. Tuesday night, from 10PM-12AM. Masbia will be giving out fresh produce, chicken and gefilte-fish. Likewise a support group of single mothers notified their members of the distribution.
