If you like the sound of radial engines and beauty of the waters off Washington's Northwest Coast then you will like this HD video.

The Catalina is a flying boat from the 1940's and was used to hunt submarines, drop depth charges and perform search and rescue missions.
The PBY was the most successful aircraft of its kind; no other flying boat was produced in greater numbers.

Today many Catalina's still fly and are used as water bombers. The Calypso was used as a mobile diving platform for Jacques Cousteau.

  • Very cool video. - I was aboard Calypso when Philippe Cousteau had his tragic accident in Portugal.

  • awesome video. I love the catalina. One thing you can do to make your flying look smoother is to use the instant replay option. Fly the plane as you would from the cockpit and then go back and use instant replay to capture the video rather than trying to fly from outside. You end up with a much smoother looking flight without the altitude holding problems or the sudden climbs and decents.
