@Lewelltam Didn't know what meds he was on, but I'd heard it was his wife who insisted he get off it cos of the other side effects, meaning he got prone to whatever it was again & could no longer perform regularly in public. Pbly good for him overall, but leaving US wanting...
@JavelBleach No bother. I've seen Andy somewhere himself say that at the time of his breakdown he'd recently stopped taking valium for the first time in something like 13 years. That can't have helped! Valium's very addictive, so his body must have been experiencing quite a lot of withdrawal symptoms at the time. Those symptoms, I imagine, were central in sparking-off his panic attacks and a heightened sense of unreality and bodily unease in general. In short, a nervous breakdown.
@JavelBleach It's not that he got stage fright - he had panic attacks. Most performers get stage fright to some degree - panic attacks however are much rarer and are a separate thing entirely to stage fright. Panic attacks can occur for a variety of reasons. Agoraphobics, for example, will often experience panic attacks if they are forced to go outside. And once a panic attack starts they are almost impossible to stop.
You just have to ride it out. Performing would be impossible.
@JavelBleach I think he simply didn't appreciate being treated like a trained monkey... that may have caused much awkwardness for him and ultimately, stress.
@ Salguine I got stage fright doing both, but rather thrived on it tbh. Depends on what you're doing of course. Colin looks the more stage-struck in this one.
