  • India had never been a united nation before 1947 and so not surprisingly it divided when independence was granted. This showed a lamentable myopia of political judgement of Ghandi and much of the nationalist leadership. It was the genius of the Raj that it understood the plurality of the true Indian and created a viable and generally humane government employing just few thousand British civil servants and officers.

  • @johnsammyanfal india was always one for very long period of time.. if u know the mahabharat & Ramayan.. u'll see how it was described..not just pakistan and bangladesh but initialy afghanistan was also part of her. when alexender attacked india..the king of india was chandragupta..and europeon ppl knew india as india not as a diffrent country..infact the name hindu was given by Arab which is made of Himalaya & river Hindu. from that Hindustan came which means india.

  • The Mughals were Mongols; descendants of Genghis Khan, the word translates as Mongols empire.

  • i think Mughals and Mongols were diffrent ppl not descendatns.

  • read anwar sheikhs historic accounts and francois gaultiers of how 80 MILLION hindus were killed cos they didnt convert - history is not told everywhere - islam and christians are both murderers

  • yes the Brits took our wealth, money ect.. but the muslims tried to take our identity and culture away. This is far more important to a nation then its wealth. And the way the muslims tried to covert Indians is undiscrible, its is only because of resistance from Sikhs and Rajputs that most of south asia is non-muslim. Also Indian culture at the time was far more advanced then arab culture which aided the resistance against islam.

  • @n33rav LOL morons are annoying

  • Britain's contribution to the Indian subcontinent was immense and without precedent. By 1914 Britain was investing £400 million - over a quarter of its total global investment. The area of irrigated land was increased eightfold, compared to just 5% under the Mughals. A vibrant coal industry was created from nothing. And average life expectancy was raised by eleven years during the Raj. Honest Indians should be on their knees with gratitude!

  • @n33rav Mongols mixed with Turks became Mughal

  • @johnsammyanfal Humane government hehe, which made this region one of the poorest in the whole world? India was not even united when British left, instead they left 36000 princely states independent, it was the legion of nationalist leaders, particularly Sardar Patel, who united them, even with hook and crook. Half knowledge is dangerous.

  • @johnsammyanfal what are you talking man......Britishers sucked the juice out of India.....their only aim was to steal all the resources in this rich country with small states........read about Maurya empire for united India......

  • @johnsammyanfal Umm, most of those divisions have nothing to do with democracy since most of those areas are not democratic. Even Taiwan and Northern Ireland have only recently been democratised (c.1994 and 1969). Taiwan appears to be slowly losing its democracy and the majority (I presume you mean the loyalists) in NI don't give a damn about democracy. So I don't see how you can claim anything about 'global democracy (which does not exist).

  • Iraq was a colonial creation of the large three urban centres of Mesopotania (Kuwait City has never been part of Iraq); Vietnam - an old nation, began as a break away from China and chose to divide after French rule; Korea similarly chose to divide into North and South; Taiwan is a disputed territory and essentially the product of the Chinese ideological civil war; and Northern Ireland remains British on the democratic consent of its majority. Global democracy creates untidy divisions.

  • You should read more carefully the comments you are prepared to pontificate on. Of course the British did not invent India – if that is your point? India existed as a geographical feature and a repository of ancient civilisations for centuries. The crystallised myths of the Mahabharata and Ramayana testify to the shifting fluidity of its culture. But India was only ever unified as a nation and bestowed a single political expression under the Raj.
