Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), a Republican candidate for President, made a campaign appearance in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on December 21. In this fifth and final segment of his campaign speech, Doctor Paul takes and answers questions from the audience.

The first question is about Doctor Paul's mental and physical fitness and how he maintains his fitness. Paul responds:

"I try to exercise. I try to eat right. This morning, even though we got in very very late last night from New Hampshire, I did get out and got my walk in and cleared my head and loosened my muscles. I really emphasize exercise, I did that with my patients. My kids kid me that I would tell them that exercise is a real panacea."

The second question is about the other candidates in recent debates looking at Doctor Paul as something of a teacher and Paul's opinion on Jesse Ventura.

"It's true that Jesse Ventura was at our meeting last time and he's an independent-minded person. We have a lot of things that we agree on."

The third question is about if Ron Paul has thought of who he would pick as a running mate for President.

"It would have to be somebody that we are philosophically compatible with. Somebody that understood Austrian economics and understood personal liberties and understood the Federal Reserve."

The next question is how Paul would overturn Obama health care.

"The easiest way would be if you have a new Congress than the President can repeal it. The President also can issue waivers...I think if there's a vehicle to give waivers then yes, you should give waivers...one other thing that's packed in there is they've virtually made it impossible for doctors to still be an independent doctor. Because every single thing the doctor does is going to be sent to a computer in Washington. Every visit, every drug that is prescribed, and they're going to grade the doctors. Well, what if you're a doctor that takes the tougher cases?"

The next question is about what the government can do to better train people for jobs. Ron Paul replies:

"Even though there's high unemployment, there's still a lot of jobs to be filled. They're at both ends - some are scientific jobs, new technology, but because our educational system has deteriorated, we don't have enough educated people. But even on the low end of the spectrum, sometimes if you're getting an unemployment check and a welfare check, why go take a job at six or eight bucks? You might lose a buck an hour. You're not going to do that. So that's a disincentive. The welfare state plays a major role."

Ron Paul continues to talk about the real issue as he sees it:

"There should be more on the job training. It used to be in the old days, that you could go and be a trainee. If they needed somebody to be a good mechanic, you could learn on the job...you have to get back to a market force where there is an incentive to take an on the job training job...that used to be the way it was done."

The next question is how Ron Paul would handle a Congress that was hostile to his policies. Ron Paul responds:

"That is the big question, how do you get people to agree? You have to bring people together on these issues. That's one thing the freedom philosophy does. It brings people together. Because what I'm talking about here today is not characteristic exactly of what the other Republican candidates are talking about. They will not cut anything from overseas. But neither do many Democrats want to. You have to bring people together - on civil liberties it would be a different group, on foreign policy it would be a different group, on market it would be a different group."
