Please help me overclock my E8400.

I have a very potent system, ABIT IP35 Pro mobo and MUSHKIN 2*2GB DDR2 dual-channel kit and Integral Copper cooling + Unit is placed on the balcony and I now have 10 degrees celsius on my CPU :D

I have seen that E8400 can be pushed to 5GHz and I don't think I have such an incompetent system :P

  • OC steps are the same no matter what hardware:

    1. Find and DISABLE EIST. If you don't have the setting you probably don't have to worry about it.

    2. Find and DISABLE any setting that might contain VIRTUALIZATION and SPECTRUM

    3. Gradually increase CPU and CHIPSET voltage, NOT too high though !

    4. PCI-Express at default

    5. RAM timings have to be set manually, at least the first 4 (example 5-5-5-15).

    6. I have found no problem whatsoever using any RAM frequency ratio - 1:fsb:dram or any other

  • @SINEKT i need your help. i have done exactly what you suggested and it still says that im running at 2.40ghz. please help me overclock this thing. Abit ip35 pro motherboard, q6600 intel

  • @DrPhillLeeRoller It seems some kind of auto-frequency control is taking over. Double-check and TRIPLE check if you really deactivated EIST (Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology). Also, remove any motherboard control software you might have installed, like Abit uGuru, or anything else you have there.

  • Thanks man I think it is the first time my CPU stays in 4,4 GHz stable and this only because it was late and I didn't push it anymore, I'll try some more OC today.

    BIG THANK YOU !!! :D

  • u gat serverd

  • is there a way to overclock cpu without ram?

I have 668 mhz ram and i cant go further than 3.4 ghz pls help me!

  • yeah fucked it up i had 3.1 ghz after a couple of days it was 1.2 ghz

  • Im whit same problem ;( ASUS p6k p35 and E8400 ?

  • Disable EIST and virtualazation. Along with any sperctrums listed. Might need more vcore and maybe NB to next highest 1.35-1.40v should do.

My E8400 takes 1.36v to be stable at 4.0ghz. Check out my videos might help you out.

    Set PCI-E at 100mhz

    Run RAM at 1: FSB:DRAM

Set RAM timings manually at least the first 4 of them. Others can stay auto unless you know them.
