This piece is one of a collection of five pieces that I composed in 2010, which collectively are titled "Nightscapes." The works were inspired by the composer Anton Webern, however they are not an attempt to sound like pieces he may have composed. My intention was to write brief, atonal pieces that were ambient in nature, that create a nocturnal atmosphere.

Each piece is composed of a 3-note pitch class set. This piece uses the set {0,1,5}, which would be the notes C, Db, and E in prime form. The intervals created within this particular set are a minor 2nd, a major 3rd, and their respective inversions. I freely transpose this set, and use both ascending and descending versions of the set in order to increase the palette of notes that may be used.

I hope you enjoy it!

if interested in the sheet music, i will gladly send you a pdf file if you will notify me of any public performances so that i may document them for my vita. e-mail me at keithshaffer119@gmail.com
