IBM Software & Systems announces Cloud Services for carrier-grade infrastructures, an excellent suite of services for the communications service provider including cloud backup and recovery.

I'm Steve Mills, IBM Senior Vice President and Group Executive for Software and Systems. I want to talk to you about an exciting announcement that we've just made which is for our Cloud Service Provider Platform or what we call CSP2. This platform is all about enabling Cloud Service Providers, in particular telecommunications carriers, with the capability of offering all kinds of hosted, if you will, cloud services on top of a reliable, scalable, carrier grade, infrastructure. This effort has been going on with ourselves and many of our customers over the last year or so utilizing a variety of IBM strategic technologies and adding additional features and capabilities to meet the very high level of scalability and reliability that is associated with what the industry refers to as carrier grade infrastructures. We're happy to be announcing this and making it available to all of our clients around the world. Obviously, the carriers worldwide will see this as being of interest to them but clearly other companies that are looking at offering different forms of on-the-web cloud type services, I think will find this to be a very interesting set of capabilities. It's built up from a set of technologies. It provides an operational infrastructure for the provisioning and scheduling capabilities that are demanded by cloud services. It's highly dynamic and also highly scalable. We're capable of supporting literally many tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of virtual machine images as a function of what the cloud service provider needs to do. It's designed for high availability and reliability. Failover capabilities, recovery capabilies, auditability capabilities and interfaces into billing environments to make it possible for service providers to be able to offer offerings that reach out to clients of different sizes and match to the various types of payment schemes that are becoming popular in the industry today. We're excited about this announcement. It's unique in that it is clearly geared towards these very high scalability, very sophisticated and very reliable infrastructures that we think are going to be demanded by businesses that take advantage of service offerings coming from a wide range of providers. Our telecommunication carrier customers are uniquely positioned given their decades and decades of being reliable providers of infrastructure, to extend their classical networking services into more of an application service model. We're working with many of them around the world and we'll be working with many more over the course of the months to come. So again, CSP2,exciting new offering that delivers the kind of highly scalable, highly reliable infrastructure for those that want to put up next-generation cloud based services. Thanks.
