forget about the lemon, instead rasp an onion on the grater. then it is traditional german. - without onion it`s the" jewish lattkes". but please no lemon, they dont grow in europe!

Lemon is used sometimes to "cleanse" the potato flavor or prevent rust (to keep them from turning brown from exposure to oxygen once they are cut)

You don´t need lemon. The original potato-pancake (kartoffelpuffer / reibekuchen) is only with potato, onion, a litte bit farina, an egg and a litte bit salt and pepper. Finish!

Vielleicht kennst du's nur unter einem anderen Namen. Dotsch, Reibadatschi, Reibekuchen oder Kartoffelpuffer. Vielleicht hatte deine Mutter aber auch nie lust welche zu machen. Eigentlich ist das, auch in Bayern, was ganz alltägliches.

I've lived in Munich, Augsburg, and Stuttgart...where Kartofelpufer were served...often with applesauce.
