Thank you Eric. I'm just starting to learn about backpacking. I had a small pack to me and then I upgraded to a Kelty Red Cloud 110. It has 6650 cu inches. I'm happy to say it holds everything. I liked you video because one can pack in a smaller pack then I. I will be going to Colo first Rockie Mtns. and then to Bryce Nat'l Park (canyon). If time permits to Zion too. It's a 15 trip. Thanks for hints in packing.

Damm really good video and review Eric. I am just getting started in hiking and packing well that is if you don't want to count my 21 years in the Army. A couple of friends and I are headed to Wyoming this fall on a do it yourself hunt and I just picked up an Eberlestock J107pack for that, however wife and I plan on doing some hiking and camping soon. I will check out your Blog for some tips...thanks take care.

cool, thanks. nice little system you've got there.
Just wondering, is that snow in the lower middle part of the screen on the right hand side?

Re: only needing one way to start a fire... I really like to have 2 minimum. I go with the Mini Bic ( you're so right on w/this one!) but I also bring a small waterproof vial that contains about 7 H2O proof matches, 4 small sections of plastic straws, heated & crimped on the ends to seal them. They contain pieces of petroleum jelly soaked cotton balls. Also a shortened nail file that's been sharpened into a small knife. This set up weighs next to nothing & gives me piece of mind when I'm out. H

@ThruHike4Freedom I carry a similar setup. Bic lighter, waterproof matches, and cotton balls soaked in vaseline.

almost perfect man. you're missing a survival knife.
DigitalCard 1 year ago
@DigitalCard I used to carry a fixed blade knife, but after thousands of miles of not having any use for it I swapped it for the little Swiss Army knife. Although a good knife is an essential piece of survival gear if you are lost in the remote wilderness and need to construct a makeshift shelter or try and procure food, on maintained and well traveled trails such as the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail it's not much good for anything other than slicing cheese.
