Italy bans the LTTE TV Channel

The Italian government has taken action to ban the operation of an International TV Channel of the LTTE outfit. (16/03/2008)

Initial inquiries have bared that the Euro Television Channel was illegal. The Italian Police said this Channel had telecast LTTE terrorist propaganda. Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Italy Hemantha Warnakulasuriya made submissions to the Italian government about this TV Channel. Comprehensive investigations were thereafter carried out. The Italian Police took action to shut down the TV Channel. Reports emanating from Italy said the TV station had been sealed. Many LTTE International TV Channels were banned in the past following the mediation of the Sri Lankan government. These included TTN in Paris, the French Satellite TV Channel and the French PPN Tamil Tiger TV Channel. Several tapes on LTTE terrorist programmes that were to be telecast throughout Europe have been seized.
