How people can make jokes about this is beyond me! My wife suffers from this condition and fights a daily battle against alcoholism and there's nothing funny about it. All I can say about the smug, heartless, shallow, contemptible people who've made smart-arsed remarks like put thiamin in beer is I hope that if there is any kind of natural justice in this world that they have to watch a loved suffer like this - then they can try and make a smart remark - the scumbags!

Wow, I never knew about this syndrome, and coincidentally was looking up The Mad Hatter inspiration, saying many actual hatters suffered from Korsakoff's syndrome, and then I decided to look up what that was. I'm glad I did. Now, Im learning.

people who actually are capable of doing this to themselves deserve it. Waste of life if you ask me. Is it sad? Yeah, hell yes is it. It fuckin sucks to say the least. But honestly, you need to have ALL your calories come from alcohol for WEEKS. Has anyone seen the animal models of Korsakoffs syndrome? It's actually the most pathetically sad thing I've ever seen.

@docoftheworld You're delusional if you think he was reading that SCRIPT in the presence of the patient with which he interviewed. This educational video was produced using scripts and cameras with people BEHIND the scenes.  Also, didn't you notice the change in audio volume and clarity between the dialogue and the monologue speaking to directly to the camera? The shot of the man's face during this monologue was pure Hollywood... he was NOT present. Do you think they'd risk him interrupting?
