  • This is a serious question. How does the power compare between a flathead and say a mid-70s v8 with the same CID?I'm talking about stock engines,no high performance parts on either engine.I've never had a chance to work with a flathead before.

  • @BadPennyDonnie Well the power of this flathead is approx. 160 hp as you see it there. Thats from 239 cu. in. So its small, compact , and light.

  • She sounds beautiful! Really nice flathead man!

  • Thanks for looking. I think the 48 carbs and tall Thickston manifold help give it some extra zip!

  • Now there a red neck dyno

  • wish i had that in my 1949 ford

  • stock 49 flatheads had 100 hp in trucks in 52 i think they were upgraded to 110 cuz of better compression ratio

  • purrs like a kitten=)

  • nothing beats the sound of a flat head v8

  • @WTR1050 Thank you WTR,that answers some other questions I had also.

  • @BadPennyDonnie they are much smaller, but if you notice, the block itself looks bigger. it is. you can bore flatheads to like 140 over or something close to that. the cylinder walls are extremely thick from stock on certain blocks, find one of those and do a little machine work and, yes, you can have a flathead with comparable c.i. to a mid '70s V8. but thats a lot of money most people dont have and work most people dont know how to do. lol. thats why small block chevys became so popular.

  • @WTR1050 Thank you for the reply.I'm trying to learn about the the old flatheads and found some info.I didn't know that they had smaller cylinders though.
