ir. Barbara Attie, Janet Goldwater, 2005, Nicaragua / U S A, 55 min.

Completed in 2005, two years after the rape and pregnancy of a nine year-old Nicaraguan girl in Costa Rica, Rosita documents the political, social, and religious sentiment surrounding Rosita's situation and the issue of abortion in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Maria and Francisco, Rosita's parents, moved their small family from Nicaragua to Costa Rica to find work and ended up facing a battle in both countries in which abortion is illegal. After the family's tireless struggle, doctors perform an abortion for Rosita following the legal exception for abortion when the life of the mother is in danger. Many claimed that Rosita's abortion should not have happened, including the Nicaraguan Cardinal who excommunicated all those involved with the abortion. Rosita's story reached people throughout Latin America and Europe who came together in support of the young victim, speaking against the authorities of the government and the Church.

  • where i can download this film?

  • This documentary is so sad. I would love to watch it again, I think I would appreciate it better now.

HighlyExalted - "her stepdad got her pregnant again" - Huh? Who are you talking about? Rosita was raped/impregnated one day by a man who was working on a nearby farm (while she was on her long walk to school). From what I remember the man got a very short prison sentence (2 years or less).

  • that was the saddest documentary ever. It seemed like the whole society was punishing and torturing this little girl all in the name of their own hypocrisy. I wish the story would have ended happy but unfortunately the stepdad got her pregnant once again.

  • Umm, I believe JESUS was crucified, Christians that were persecuted, and pilgrims that seeked religious freedom hence the US. It's IGNORANT people that kill innocent lives and use religion as an excuse. You ever heard of "THOU SHALL NOT KILL"??? What does Bush getting elected prove? I didn't vote for him! To prove my point about persecution everytime you reply you insult, prejudge, and make up words. Read the Gospel of John in the Bible, see what we REALLY believe. Don't assume... get educated.

  • Just saying things as they are. Much damage has been caused by superstitious religious people..many people have been crucified and tortured and killed by people with dumb beliefs like you and you should take responsibility for that and all of Christiandoms evil acts. There are a lot of dumb stupid people out there...proof Bush got elected!

  • I'm glad I was born and get to live. I think about it with every experience I have.

As far as the truth, the chance for us to exist out of random events is very remote. There's an intelligent design someone created.

I don't know why you're offensive. Just because someone has a different point of view than you do doesn't mean they are sad or dumb. If that were the case... there's a lot of dumb sad people out there and you're in a very elite minority.

  • No. It would have been fine If I were never born. the same goes for you too.

It cant be that bad not being born and alive.

    Think about it.

I was taught to speak the truth and not have respect for superstitious believers like you and other sad humans.

  • Aren't you glad your Mom decided not to excercise the right to kill it?... I mean, you?

I'm sure a good mom like her taugh you all about respect towards others too...

  • Every woman has a right to kill anything that is growing inside of her. Period.

Men do not have any right to make any rules about abortion. Period.

Religious people who believe in God and other imaginary creatures are plain dumb. Period.

  • jeez these girls are so young!!! im sad i was wathicng this video it was a song called brenda's got a baby by 2pac and she didnt want ot tell her parents so she had it in the bathroom and there was blood everywhere one day she couldnt take care of the baby so she threw the baby in the dumspster
