It's been used as an anti-toxin in traditional Chinese medicine for over two thousand years, but now Scutellaria barbata, a relative of garden mint, is being refined into drugs that are effective against over 90% of cancerous tumours. Researchers at the University of Salford's Kidscan Laboratories have developed a range of drugs that combat cancer in a completely new way.

People DO know what is causing cancer, it's what you get when cells get damaged on the DNA level, this causes uncontrolled growth of cells. Those overgrown areas are called tumors.
The problem is that you can't (easily) 'repair' the tumor cells after they are multiplying and growing without the old control that would make sure the cells stop growing and multiplying at an much too fast rate.
