The Illinois Railroad Association was formed in December, 1950 at a meeting of the Chicago Railroad Presidents' Conference. This educational film was produced by the Association to explain to the general public the problems facing railroads in the 1950's such as competition from cars, trucks and planes, as well as the unfair tax burden faced by railroads at the time.
Thank you for posting! I have lived in the Chicago area my entire life. My parents worked in the railroad industry, for the Rock Island, the Soo Line as well as suppliers. I recognize many locales in the film. I date this film as 1958 - 60, from RR equipment and autos, so it was made when I was 1 - 3 years old. I will definitely be back to watch this again. (Where DO you get these films...? Wonderful stuff.)
