Larry King asked Oprah Winfrey if America would elect a black president, referring to Barack Obama.

On Jeremiah Wright:
We shouldn't be held accountable for all of the opinions of our friends, colleagues and family members. There are some things I admire about David Duke. He might be able to teach me a few things and vice-versa. We might even get along. This doesn't mean I support everything he stands for and I shouldn't be responsible for it. This could turn into a never-ending witch hunt of friends' opinions and that's just a silly distraction from the bigger fish we so clearly have to fry.

  • And then there's Bobby Jindal, governor of Lousiana. He's not African American, but he's Indian, so there's another example of voters not caring about race.

  • givebirth: My guess is, there are tons of examples... but that's not newsworthy.

  • Better to ask if americans would elect a poor man. You see after you've made your first few million nobody gives a dam what color you are. Money talks.

  • silicon: A poor man? Now *that* America will never probably never elect.

  • I agree, it's so stupid, it's a NON ISSUE, we should elect a black, or woman president just as we should any other president (based on their qualifications!) It is an insult to ask such a question!

  • You have it exactly right. Race and sex are not nearly the issue that the media makes them out to be. The right person with the right views will get elected, no matter whether they are white, or black or green, or man or woman or neither. As successful candidate must step away from these identifications. People will not elect anyone because of their race or sex.

  • No, i gotta say im pretty racist in regards to thug hip hop culture, makes me sick, i was born in 77 and raised in a black area..Racism is not going anywhere just yet. To much assuming everyone is racist with black folks i think, which makes them go on the offensive...maybe it will work out one day.
