A scene from Garland's final film. She plays a drunken concert singer who is desperatly trying to become involved in the life of her teenage son whom she left in care of an old lover years before.

Garland displays some of her best acting tallents in this scene.

  • I seldom comment on these things, but the description of this clip needs to be corrected.

Garland DOES NOT play "drunken concert singer." There is ONE crucial scene where her character has too much to drink. But, the theme of the movie has nothing AT ALL to do with alcoholism.

It's about a woman who gave up her illegitimate son at birth and who now wants to enter his life.

    A "fan" should know better.

  • WOW. Her acting was never better! Her final performance.....

  • She was drunk during the making of the film though - on one occasion she failed to turn up at the Palladium where a whole theatre full of extras were awaiting her - my dad was in the band.

  • If Judy had straightened her hair (I know not the stye then, but if she had had it longer and not in that hideous poof) she would've looked so great. Her face looks excellent, but the hair itself adds about 30 years. She's barely 40 here.

  • Judy is so sensitive and open hearted - she has such a genius in her expression, it's really astonishing.

  • my absolute favourite film, with my two favourite stars !! A triumph

  • She was so tired. she looks like she is 50..

  • I just saw this film last night. I hadn't even known that it existed. I only found out because of the clips from it on YouTube. I was expecting a performance from Garland in her final years that was good, but perhaps not her best. I was also expecting a so-so melodramatic film of the period, and that would explain why I had never heard of it. Well, now I've seen it, and I can say that "I Could Go on Singing" is an excellent film, and Garland gave what is very clearly a BEST ACTRESS performance.

  • A legend and a superstar and yet still the most under-rated and under-appreciated performer in show business history.

  • @GubbioTwo you are right but i also think she does it because she wanted to work on her career.

  • at least three of judy's husbands were fruits.

    discuss!

  • Dirk was a GORGEOUS homosexual!
