  • This was stupid, a total bunch of crap. I appreciate and respect the IOC and FIG for wanting to keep the Olympics free of all drug-enhanced performances, but anyone with 2 eyes could see this wasn't an issue. Why did they test her again anyway? Because she won? And then they go an un-ban the substance 4 years later. Geez! I'm not an Andrea Raducaan fan really (I don't dislike her or anything, I'm just indifferent), but she was robbed. Of course, 2000 was a sham year for gymnastics altogether.

  • whats even more devastating is the fact that that cold pill is no longer banned, so it really did not help her at all

  • I don't understand why a cold pill would've been considered a banned substance in the first place. A cold pill isn't a steroid...it won't make you stronger, faster, etc. Such a sad occurrence for this gymnast.

  • so sad...

  • Andrea wil remain and always remain a true and inspiring gymnast, we will remember her as an icon not becuase of that stupid doctor whom she trusted. I hope she will look back and feel she did achieve something.

  • @unickgodess I'm going to assume that English is not your first language and that you aren't an illiterate, pathetic, ignorant person. AGAIN THE IOC made the decision, there are rules in place for a reason.

  • @tmwalkerm Heei! She didn't take an illegal substance how you like to say!Team doctor gave her a cold pill.Make difference! To can do what she did in competition needs many years hard work. She start to train at 4 years age,her childhood was only gimnastic. She worked very hard to make performance. She demonstrate before Olympics and after she is one of the BEST GIMNAST in the World! She won many titles, anyway cold pill not help to make performance!

  • It's clear that the IOC wants to "save face" and not admit that they were wrong in stripping Andreea of the title. I believe that eventually, Andreea will get her medal back, once enough time has passed that new committee members can see the situation clearly and without pride. The problem then becomes will they have to strip Liu Xuan of the bronze, or let her keep it and have Maria Olaru as co-bronze medallist?

  • @MaebySurelyBarely

actually, she didn't qualify to beam finals, but I agree about the floor - it was unfair enough to take the medal away from her but it wasn't enough for them, they just had to ruin the chance for her to win one more medal in the floor finals.

  • I feel bad for her but the substance was banned. There is nothing more to it. They put these rules in place for a reason and if someone breaks the rules there must be consequences. Taking away her gold medal was harsh but at the moment I can't think of another consequence.

  • @Ewenniae True... a cold pill wont make a gymnast better(and now that pill it not on the ban list)....it was clear robbery..and envy i can say.

  • in my opinion - gymnastics is such a sport in which a chemical, taken a couple of days before you compete, cannot suddenly make you perfect. you either have skills, technique, concentration and desire required to win or you don't.

gymnasts work hard from an early age, so did Andreea. one little chemical cannot replace years and years of hard and dedicated work.

that medal is and always will be Andreea's.
