I'll never forget this. I was nine, just waking up when my Mum came running into the room. The world seemed to stop for one day.

I was only 11 years old and in 5th grade when this happened. After lunch break, our teacher told us what happened and that we were being sent home early. After I got back home and watched the news, my whole body went numb as I saw the scenes of the towers collapsing. I then started worrying about my Uncle who was a New York Police Officer and was called in after the South Tower was hit. Thankfully he survived. Even today, a decade later, it still feels like a recent memory.

I was sitting in my flat in Western Sydney, Australia and was watching the West Wing. Jim Waley came on saying and air crash happened in New York. I stopped watching after the first tower collapsed. I am a teacher and opened the doors of the school the next morning. No surprises as to what the kids were talking about. The one thing I remember that morning was the date on my colleague's casio digital watch. 911, the US emergency number. We weren't calling it nine eleven yet.

I was just 8 at the time of this, it was about quarter past three (gmt) and we walked through the door and found my friends mum glued to the TV. Seeing what was happening we watched as well. By this time the South Tower was gone and the North Tower continued to burn. It was when I saw the antenna mast plunge down and the tower explode into dust that my heart truly sank with it. I visited the in 1995, and it was horrible to think that some of the people me and my parents bumped into may be dead.
