A track from Roots and Branches.
Lyrics:

Fall guys, proudfoot, redbone drag along
Cool fall nights you can still hear a song
Running with the moon on a black trace riverbank
Flatfoot and fifty with a coon on the run

Redbone hound, come and get your belly up
Lyin' on your tail all day long
The mist is rising in the Cripple Creek holler
Gonna run 'til the dew on the grass meets the sun

Ol' fall guys been rackin' through the beanpatch
Diggin' up the corn seed can't do more
Uncle Jack said he's going for the shotgun
Gonna nail his hide to the chicken house door

  • Note that the banjo player shown is not the player on the album and song. Banjo here is provided by Billy Ray Lathum who replaced Doug for a period.

  • @captremo1 Yeah you're right. I met BRL when the Dillards came over to the UK. We were lucky enough to get invited backstage and we jammed for about 20 minutes! One of the best experiences of my life!

  • one of my favourite songs

thanks for the lyrics, I could only understand half of what they where saying hahahaha and i wan't to make a cover one day hahahaha

  • @rafabluegrass A bluegrass band I played in years ago played this song. The banjo player played through a fuzz pedal and amp and the sound was fantastic. Good luck with your cover. Hope to hear it sometime.

  • Great song, but it's from "Roots and branches" album and not "American duck ..."

  • @Aubrunner Thanks. You are of course absolutely right. Stupid me. I'll change it. Thanks again.

  • love this song

  • @aliwhitwell Billy Ray and I have been friends for nearly 40 years. We had a couple of bands that never caught on also. I don't see him so much now because he's in Nashville and I'm on the left coast but we talk often on the phone. He's a great guy with a huge heart and I[m fortunate to be his frinend. Thanks for the comment.

  • One of my favourite songs

thanks for the lirycs I could only understand half of what they where actually singin' hahaha

  • I'm pretty sure they did this on the Larry Kane Show out of Houston, TX when Roots & Branches came out...wonder if that footage still exists?

  • Cool upload, The Dillards And "Roots And Branches", timeless, peerless, music for the ages!
