Best way to cut a mango. My wife learned how to cut a mango from a local while on a trip in Puerto Rico. Also this particular mango was the best one I have had in about a year.

  • I love mango. First time I had one was in Florida when I was 21. I had hitch hiked down there one summer. It was the most awesome tasting fruit ever. Kind of a cross between a peach and a pine tree.

Sadly, I'm allergic to the sap in the skin and I break out like poison ivy wherever it touches my body.

That said, how do you figure out which way the see lies? It's flat so how can you predict which way to cut the mango?

p.s. a spoon will get any wasted flesh for smoothies later on.

  • @gamenode Great Mango Story! Thanks for sharing. It is a magical fruit!

Poison Ivy Skin: yes i hear the mango is in the same family as the poison ivy and the sap from the skin can cause reactions in many people. Maybe it would help if you used gloves while preparing the mango just to be safe?

Cutting Lines: You can start cutting anywhere and be ok. The flesh is forgiving.

Spooning is a great idea. :)

  • Watching this, actually relaxes me hahaha.

  • @righteous09 makes me hungry! :)

  • @ShallowJam Senior Jam this is the proper way to cut a mango I assure you. I know my parents and your parents probably drilled it into your brain never cut towards your hand, but with a mango to outer covering is thick enough where you have little chance of cutting through unless of course you are about 5 years old. This is how a Puerto Rican taught us in Puerto Rico and is practiced all through the Caribbean.

  • I was drooling watching this and the only thing around me was a papaya.

  • @gamenode

you didnt mention the origin of the mango....you must must .....must try pakistani or indian mangoes.... they r the best in the world....very delicious..plz dont mind my free advise

  • my brother just got a mango he's going to try it

  • @gamenode you need a trip to india in june or july. you will see mango trees in people's front yards and fruit vendors on the streets with several different varieties of mangoes. ask me about eating a mango without cutting the skin.

  • @gamenode Hold the knife straight out in front of you, line up the fruit so it looks like a zero like this: 0. The fruit shapes itself around the flat seed. Cut the skinny sides. Naturally people wanna cut the thicker side, thinking they'll get more fruit but you'll just run into the seed. Think of it looking like this: (0) the zero is the seed, the space between the zero and the parentheses is edible fruit. Ive never cut one wrong but my family is mostly Pacific Islanders. ;)

  • @Jerachistar the seed is in the middle, flat, so you can cut the mango on the other side too. I explained it in detail in my comment but to explain quickly: the mango looks like this- (0) the zero in the middle is the seed and the space between the zero and the parentheses is the edible fruit. So both sides are equal and can be cut exactly the same using this mango cutting technique shown in the video.

  • Where to cut: Hold the knife straight out in front of you, line up the fruit so it looks like a zero like this: 0. The seed is flat, the fruit shapes itself around the seed. You need to cut the skinny sides. Naturally people want to cut the thicker side, thinking they'll get more fruit but you'll just run into the seed. Think of it looking like this: (0) the zero is the seed, the parentheses are edible fruit. Ive never cut one wrong... then again my family is mostly Pacific Islanders. ;)

  • yes yes, very nice ring you got there :) but give me some mango!

  • What about the side with the big ass seed?

  • nice ring
