Mindy Egan describes the Aquarama in its heyday and tours the vacant lot that replaced it. The pool and its support facilities were closed in 1992 and demolished in 1995. The pool area was funded in part by a grant from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund. The Jekyll Island State Park Authority failed to request or receive the required permission as prescribed by law prior to demolishing the pool. The JIA has been given retroactive permission by the National Park Service to replace this active recreational facility with a passive park.
