Part 17b - After exploring most of Serenia, we have finally discovered the location of Achenar's journal. We can only hope, that the information contained within it will bring us one step closer to finding Yeesha.

In closing, special thanks to Ubisoft for creating such a great game! Also, thanks to Cyan Worlds for creating the first few Myst games.

**SPOILER***

The reason I used zip mode towards the end, was only to save time walking there. Not to worry though, this is one of the few times that I plan on using zip mode.

***SPOILER 2***

Also, to those concerned about why I am leaving Serenia at this time (at the end of the video), there are two reasons.

1) The protectors are still asleep / dreaming, and will remain so until later in-game. Essientially, we need their help.

2) The main reason that we had to leave, was because we could not make any more progress at this time. The wheel is locked, and refuses to budge. A mysterious creature has it in its grasps. Our Amulet shows us, that our only clue / hope to remove it, is if we first go to Haven. Until that moment, there was really no "important" reason to go to Haven. By the time we returned from Spire, we saw Achenar in the distance. It only made sense to follow him at the time.

Discussion / Comments about leaving Serenia:

The order itself doesn't really matter per se. However, it was somewhat of a tough choice (for me) to decide on whether to continue on to Haven or follow Achenar to Serenia.

Ultimately, my decision came down to a few things.

Imagine if you will for a few minutes (from a story / real world view).

Atrus has gone to another world. He's left you in charge to look after his daughter (to keep her safe). However, despite your best efforts, the bridge collapses and you are quickly knocked unconscious. After waking up, you realize that not only have several hours passed, but that Yeesha has also been kidnapped. Yeesha's amulet reveals, that one if not both of the brothers were responsible. You also learn, that Yeesha tried to escape to the linking chamber,

But to where exactly is (at the time) yet to be known.

You link first to Spire, and yet after an exhaustive search find neither Yeesha nor Sirrus. You then link back to Tomahna (determined to link to Haven immediately).

However, after returning from Spire for the first time, we saw Achenar off in the distance linking to Serenia. This was the way the game was designed. You link to your first prison world, and after linking back you'll see the cutscene.

While I could have just as easily edited out the cutscene after our first return from Spire and re-edited it in later after we finished Haven, I decided to follow the game's original design / storyline instead.

Keep in mind, that I thought about this decision for at least a few days or more (debating the pros and cons on whether to go to Haven or Serenia first). However, this was the decision that was made.

In summary, when we returned from Spire, we saw Achenar in the distance. It only made sense to follow him at the time. Serenia seemed like the obvious place that Yeesha would be as both Achenar & Sirrus are there. And, We later confirm that she is on Serenia.

The main reason that we had to leave Serenia, was because we could not make any more progress at this time. The wheel is locked, and refuses to budge. A mysterious creature has it in its grasps. Our Amulet shows us, that our only clue / hope to remove it, is if we first go to Haven. Until that moment, there was really no "important" reason to go to Haven.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

  • Hey I have a question. From previous run-throughs of the game, I already know what lies in Haven. But although knowing how to get the "Thing" off the wheel and such, is it required Ingame to go to Haven to make progress on Serenia?

  • @CyclonedProductions I seem to remember reading that Haven could be skipped, though I have never tried it (so I can't say for sure). That being said, if you wish to skip Haven on your next play-through; all I can say is give it a try. It will either work or it won't. Though, if I had to guess, I would say that it would work.

  • I should be posting the next video within a day or two. Then we'll be off to Haven.

  • 0_o Oh I thought Achenar was talking about how the time they trapped Cathrine in Riven with Gehn. Heh...

  • Even though Achenar is just chasing after Sirrus at this point, trying to stop him (presumably he was knocked out or something back in Haven), it still makes sense to follow him, since the player doesn't know that. So I agree that the game funnels you in that direction.

  • the color door is tricky to get to. but basically to open the door, it involves two things. the spire necklace and what you saw in dream. put them together and hey presto, the door opens.

i enjoy using these videos, but why go to serenia after spire? why not do both prison ages then go to serenia?

  • Haven is my favorite age in Revelation.
