  • Simply excellent!

Yes, the director does set a fast tempo at the 1st entrance; did no one hear/detect his slowing of the tempo at the 2nd entrance at 1:42 where he also scales back the dynamics in preparation for the ending?

  • To all the people who commented on the "rushed" tempo, I would argue that most groups sing this like a dirge. I think Conductor Tucker's interpretation is spot on, and the CUGC is absolutely incredible in this rendition. Thank you Prof. Sokol for introducing us to this Biebl masterpiece, and to the current club which keeps certain traditions alive, albeit with fresh interpretations. Bravo!

  • sweet to my ears!!

  • My son was with CUGC and I heard this piece many times. I think because of the group's history with the piece and their familiarity with it, their versions are better than any I've heard from any other group. Note, that only a handful, if that, of the group each year are music majors. The rest come from the other disciplines and sing because they love it. Unique group who can sing this song anytime, anywhere, by heart - with heart. See them live when you can.

  • The singers were great, but yes the conductor was moving too fast, not giving this classic its full expression.

  • I thought the director was moving too fast for this angelic song

  • I was with CUGC on the Eastern European tour of "72. In two short years Biebl had become a standard piece and it could be done impromptu. Having had our formal cathedral concert banned in Budapest (cold war politics) we took a tour of said cathedral and did the piece anyway, LOL. Women began to cry and wanted to kiss us to thank us for bringing music to them. So Biebl's Ave Maria will always hold a special place in my heart. Never tell Cornellians they CAN'T do something. LOL

  • having been one of the first to sing this piece with Prof. Sokol and the CUGC ,all others are merely copying the piece brought to this country by the Glee club after a fabulous concert tour in Europpe in the early 70's. The Navy group is good and the piece has been rearranged for 7 horns by a member of the Navy Band, it too is outstanding!

  • good but not the better
