During a recent picnic in the mountains our family prepared (among other things) a popular Japanese noodle dish called yakisoba. This short video shows the steps involved in making this delicious Japanese food.

  • what mountain range is that?

  • I'm afraid that I don't know the name of these mountains though I can tell you that the area is near the community of Nagatoro which is several hours drive north of Tokyo. -Kurt :-)

  • so what is golden week???

  • Golden week is a special 7 day period in Japan during which 4 major holidays occur. The holidays are Showa Day (4/29) Constitution Day, (5/3) Greenery Day (5/4) and Childrens' Day (5/5). As a result of this packed holiday schedule many Japanese use this week for vacations and to visit relatives in their hometowns. It's an actions packed exciting week in Japan! -Kurt :-)

  • we an't swim in the water around my area in Maryland. The water is all brown and musky, it smells like a sewer in some areas and it's stagnant in others. The moving water is still covered in a layer of some kind of algae...it makes me sad that I can't enjoy swimming in the summer besides at the pool...man japan sure seems nice now =ヮ=

  • Shisus, it looks delicious <3 You guys seemed like you were having fun!

  • I would not put onions in yakisoba.

  • What were the noodles called, chow mein? I went to the Asian supermarket here in the states and I found a noodle called Yakisoba (Or some thing very close to it.) that is in the freezer or refrigerated section. I guess the supermarket is more geared toward Chinese since they only have one isle of Japanese stuff. Regardless, that Yakisoba noodle was like $4 for only three servings of noodles... what noodles are usually used in the dish yakisoba?

  • oh man, looks fun
