An Indianapolis soldier is among three reported killed fighting this week in Iraq.
The Department of Defense says 21-year-old Army Pfc. Zachary R. Nordmeyer, of Indianapolis, and two others died Monday when their unit was attacked in Balad, Iraq.
Nordmeyer was a 2007 graduate of Ben Davis High School. He was a member of the school Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), which provides military instruction and joined the Army upon graduation.
Not a day goes by when I dont think about that day. I wish there was something more I could have done for him. He was the only one still holding onto to life when I got to him. I will never forget that day or the three soldiers and interpreter we lost.
