The sad fact is that this man will never know the truth about singing. He has a great instrument and a passion for his art which is admirable but he will be forever questioning his voice. The last recorded tenor who sang truly was Jussi Bjorling. He never questioned his voice because he sang innately from the spoken word. The introduction of the 'Maestros' has ruined the true art - Bel Canto. Listen to Bjorling, Caruso and Schipa sing this aria. Listen to the true expression of the words.

Rolando is a wonderful singer, an artist - not a machine. Where are the singers of our time they could sing this song better???

this aria is wonderful...it makes me cry every time i hear it...and rolando sings it wonderfully!

@AmhranaiAlainn yes, absolutely, but rolando puts his voice all over the technique, caruso didn't have to, because his lyric formation was from his very very youth, rolando started singing when he was 20, and rolando is a lirico, caruso was a dramatico-spinto, his nature appears as soon as he trains his voice, anyway, both of them have and had, wonderful voices, now rolando isn't singing this way...because of the surgery i think.
cheers!

Villazon needs to question how he is using his voice. When he speaks clearly - he has vocal freedom. When he sings - he does not. His true voice is hidden but is still there waiting to be used. The answer lies in how he looks on singing - the crux of it lies not in the voice but in the mind. Currently his mind chooses to create a voice when he already has one provided by nature. For example, after failing with Virgine, Caruso realised nature was the key - through his wife. The spoken word.

you know, it can be raspy because it's a bad day...or allergies...or dryness...and not be vocal damage.
Hi operafan20009 (is 20009 your age?)
Be happy with your young tenors.
