In the early morning hours of July 9th, 2009, Speedbird 66V, enroute from Philadelphia to London Heathrow, diverted to St. John's International Airport because of a medical emergency.

21 hours later, it commenced its recovery leg as Speedbird 9602. Unfortunately it was under the cover of the darkness, otherwise the video would have turned out much better.

  • hmm don't see 777's take off 34 very often, looks like your Air-side by hanger 4/taxiway Charlie!!!?..lol who oyu work for? I work at CYYT, you must fly FSX? considering your user name lol

    get back too me!!

  • @eastcoast78 - You're right about that. I was really pleased it decided to use 34.

I'm actually not airside. There's some sort of walking trail that runs parallel to 34 outside the fence with a hill from where I took this. I only discovered it that summer. Raises you right up and lets you look clearly over the fence. The vantage point is fantastic. As good as it is though, I sure wish I worked at the airport, that'd be even better.

Heh, I run FS9. Haven't flown virtually in months actually.

  • You live in St.Johns???

  • Of course.

  • Virgin Atlantic and British Airways 747s landed there 2 years ago for Medical Emergencies

  • Yeah, we get all sorts...

  • ahh cool right on,pretty dark in that rail at that hr lol,yea i work at YYT/PAL,fly on FSX muti player alot,,you have a Radio tuned too the Tower?,i know being Air-side is sweet,on the service rd,im always getting Planes coming overhead,to bad that wasn't in the daylight...im Planning on taking the camera tomorrow, the Transit charters are in everyday now around supper time, and its been a Northerly Wind for sometime, and everything is landing on LOC34,ill see if i can get a good Vid!!!

  • They would have had to wait 21 hours to give the crew their minimum rest as this was probably the 3rd part of a 6 day rotation. They cross the atlantic 4 times in 6 days.

  • Why did they wait twenty-one hours to finish the flight? I would have loved to see St.John's for a day!

  • Cool I live outside of St.Johns
