because the transform requires alot of guess work, where as if I drive the animation from the action editor I have a more precise more controlled means of building the rig.
(P.S. I also had no idea on how to work the transform constraint when I made this tutorial...I now use transform constraints to drive correction shape keys, it freaking rocks!)
why don't you just use a transform modifier? for a simple rig like this you don't need more than that.
you won't even need to go into the action editor.
