This song is a standard from the Second World War updated with photographs of today's US Troops and their families. Bittersweet. Thank them. They make your freedom and comfort possible.

Also, special thanks to all allied forces in the war on terrorism (the latest totalitarian threat) including America's dearest friend and ally, the United Kingdom.

  • Unfortunately there is a stark choice now. Nearly half the American public has thrown in behind Obama and against the troops. John McCain is a disaster, but he isn't against the soldiers.

  • if u have tears, prepare to shed them now. This is a great tribute to the troops - and their families -- who sacrifice so much. Thanks for ur efforts.

  • It may not of occurred to you but many of the troops dont want to leave Iraq or afgan putting down terrorits is what they joined up for. I recently retired from the British army after 34 years. soldiering Some people who have never served thier country think they have a frame of referance when in fact they don't.You have to fight for peace and freedom if you want law and order. If there wasn't any people would be killing and eating each other. Thats the reality if you think about it logicly.

  • @rjc241 34 years & you still can't spell. Fuck off retard.

  • Stop the War in Afghanistan

  • Having been one of the ones who was always leaving to some strange locale, and leaving loved ones behind...though this lovely song is not from my war, but the worst of all wars, it still tears me to pieces.

I cannot listen to this song without losing it...

The bickering, below, is intolerably stupid. This is a place for memories, not political rhetoric.

  • this is the exact song that they play on the tower of terror

  • This is the version I love best, with that wonderful organ in the background.

  • Yes. I do have tears at 71 in 2010. My father did not come back.

  • I think that this is the original 1942 recording. What is especially significant is that she is accompanied by the the Hammond Novachord - the first polyphonic synthesiser - a fantastic instrument, but very rare because it wasn't commercially successful. Polyphonic synthesisers didn't become common until 1976 - 34 years later!!!

  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

  • we had this song at my Mum's funeral last friday . Mum was 92. Sheila in Australia

  • i love this version of the song =)
