My laptop, acer aspire 1640z worked straight of the shelf with ubuntu. I might add, nsdiwrapper can be used. If you don't have a connection type. sudo apt-get install build-essential and then make and then sudo make install
otherwise it will not work, if you don't have the internet it will prompt you to insert your cd. Thats as far as I have gotten.
