These Chargers of Capacitors use the same technology as Joule Thief's do which make me think that they are not new, They are just very efficient and also people are so unaware of what is actually inside very common everyday things.
The LED light and NEON run of just 1.5v and I know the transistor which costs £2 alone will peak at 450v from a base voltage of 1.5v....
You also get two nice transformers, a HV Capacitor and a Neon Flash Tube
Well Done Tescos' for such a cheap and Hackable product .......
Just need to box it and its a done deal.....
Enjoy.
Anyone Playing with these circuits do so at their own risk and will not cry to me if they get a shocked by the innards of any Flash Camera weather its made by a Super Market or not!!!
Paul..
ps, Yes It does hurt when you touch the small capacitor and the large capacitor when touched makes you want to bite your fingers off at the shoulder when touched. Please play Safe...

@TheDanielmoviefun no i tried it. it just makes your muscles spaz out. to shock yourself you touch the negative on the capacitor and hold the charge switch at the same time.

@MuF123 Most electros will handle rapid discharge but not shock loading to this effect. It will lead to the demise of the cap. More to the point, I can imagine why anyone would use a pair of long nose pliers to discharge.

is the capacitor built to withstand that current flowing there while shortcircuiting it?
