This video follows I-85 in Metro Atlanta from Pleasantdale Rd. (Exit 96) in northeast DeKalb County to North Ave. (Exit 249D) in Downtown Atlanta near Georgia Tech on the Downtown Connector with I-75. In this video you'll see one of the largest stack interchanges and one of the largest, most congested roads in the southeast.

Once known primarily for its handsome homes on large plots of lush green land, this city has transformed itself into a gusty metropolis. It has a dizzying assortment of nightclubs, blues bars, cafes, shops, and restaurants ranging from teahouses to palaces of culinary art that regularly make "best in the nation" lists. Every Fortune 500 firm is represented here and Atlanta has pushed its population close to 6 million people as of 2009 estimates (the city proper is almost 500,000), swelling both inside the perimeter and its suburbs with scientists, high-tech workers, and creative types lured by the energy of a city on the move. This is the center of the New South, but with gusto!

  • Thank you; I'm glad you enjoyed! I wasn't alive back then, but I would have loved to see what Atlanta's interstates looked like back in the day. I know you can still catch a glimpse of the past on the old Buford Highway next to I-85 between Midtown and GA 400, but I can't imagine what Gwinnett and the Perimeter used to look like.

  • Excellent video of southbound I-85 into Downtown Atlanta. Notice our new MUTCD-standard tabbed exit signs? :)

  • @georgiaroadgeek Thanks! No offense, but I don't like them...actually, I *really* don't like them. I loved Georgia's style of signs where the exit number took up the entire upper portion of the sign (i.e. no tabs like you see in other state). North Carolina is converting to this style all over the place. I know they're supposed to cut down on energy use since they're more reflective than past versions, but I prefer the older method. From a design and aesthetics point of view, these are fugly lol

  • I thought the spaghetti junction was when I-75 met with I-285

  • @Dan4328 That's actually called the "Cobb Cloverleaf".

  • Please give us more of ATL thur downtown, 285 and your airport. You are very with your videos, just like being there !!! Thanks you ( hd is very good )

  • @othinell Thank you! I may be in Atlanta during Christmas in December but I'll have to see how things are looking then. Thanks for watching!

  • Wish i was back there what a great joint!

  • I liked how the Bryan Adams song Run To You playing in the background weaved so perfectly through your turning on the curves and the inclines as well as your passing the cars on I-85 in the video! I remember many trips to Atlanta in the early '80s when they were widening the once 4-lane highways to 8 and 14 and 16 and replacing 20- or 25-year old bridges built in 1959-1964 with new bridges. And I've never seen such '80s styled high flyover bridges like they built at the interchanges!

  • nice median barrier

  • @Dan4328 "Spaghetti Junction" is the I-85/I-285 stack in DeKalb County.

  • man i love i85..
