  • If I were Ann Blyth I would never accept an invitation to an event like this again. She was incredibly gracious considering the freak show that was going on. How on earth did Eddie Muller lend himself to this? The lowest moment is when the queens were laughing at the Hostess commercial, a direct insult to Miss Blyth. I'm gay, but have nothing to do with this subculture.

  • @edwardjames50 With all due respect, you are NOT Ann Blyth. She had a great time, laughed with the crowd, and to this day remains a good friend (I'm the producer.) She is a class act with a good sense of humor.

  • Thank you to Hostesshue for sharing this interesting clip. I agree with the comments about Ann Blythe's voice, it was beautiful (I believe it was indeed her voice in Mildred Pierce, or perhaps someone can confirm). Also, with respect to Drag Artists, everything I've read/seen in my review of Hollywood Memorabilla, suggests these great icons got a real 'kick' out of being represented by drag artists...Further, these icons LOVED their gay fans (and usually had many gay friends).

  • Thanks blondfashionista,

Great comments. Ann mostly did her own sing (beautiful coloratura) but that's not her voice from HELEN MORGAN (it's Gogi Grant). Ann had a wonderful time, loved the drag element, and she is a good friend because of this gig. She is truly a class act and an inspiration.

  • Ann Blyth looked fabulous, wonder who

    did her work?

  • Only her hairdresser knows for sure....

  • Miss Blyth looks stunning..so natural and gracious. She sure could teach a thing or two to the current crop of Hollywood "beauties" who are so botoxed and made up its a wonder they don't suffocate under all the artifice. Thank you for posting.

  • @hostesshue thank you for making this clear

  • @hostesshue I wish I could have been there! It looked like so much fun and Ann seems like such a very kind and sweet lady. And boy does she have good pipes!

  • This is what a REAL STAR should look like!

  • I am thrilled she appeared. She is a classy lady.

If legends (to me) like Ann all hid away from us - what do we learn about Hollywood of yesteryear?

She liked Joan Crawford - just like so many stars loved Bing Crosby who it seems was harsh with his sons - but colleagues saw no problems. It was a different era eveybody.

  • She did - in RoseMarie, The Student Prince, Kismet, and one song -The Loevliest night of the Year - in The Great Caruso. Warner Bros stupidly insisted she be dubbed in The Helen Morgan Story, though her own singing voice was more like the real Helen Morgan's voice than was Gogi grant's, who did the dubbing. One of Ann Blyth's best performances was in Samuel goldwyn's Our Very Own, where she played a girl who finds out that she has been adopted.

  • OMG, when you say 'friend', do you know Ms. Blythe personally? If so, wow, what a thrill it must be. Cheers.
