China mines DR Congo's vast mineral riches - 2 Nov 08

General Laurent Nkunda, rebel leader of the National Congress for People's Defence (CNDP), has said he wants to re-examine a $5bn dollar deal the Congolese government has struck with China.

The deal gives China access to Congo's vast mineral riches in exchange for infrastructure development, including hospitals and football arenas.

However, critics say China is behaving just like the imperial powers of the past.

Al Jazeera's Nicole Johnston reports.

The simple truth is African leaders are to blame. If they could make better use of what they do get eventually they would have gained enough leverage to ensure that ALL (WESTERN AND CHINESE) corporations paid the rightfully prices for the minerals they get. The Chinese are just colonisation with different skin colour. The chinese have been in Africa since 2000 what schools have they built what roads or hospitals have they built. NON.
